The Derivative block approximates the continuous-time derivative of the input signal by computing.

\(\frac{\Delta u}{\Delta t}\)

where, \(\Delta u\) is the change in input signal and \(\Delta t\) is the change in time since the previous simulation time step. The initial output signal is zero.
