The hydraulic auto tensioner consists of following bodies:

  • Cylinder

  • Plunger

  • Check ball.

The spring and damping force of the plunger relative to the cylinder balance the cylinder and check ball.

  • The spring force is built up by the spring preload and the spring rate multiplied by the spring displacement.

  • The damping force is a friction force and a hydraulic force that is proportional to the relative velocity of the plunger and cylinder.
